Cultivating Growth in Chicago Communities
The Tea Rose Educational Foundation (TREF) was established on February 7, 2000 to promote and support activities that are positive, intellectual, and that enhance social experiences as they relate to developing healthy and productive citizens.
TREF has a longstanding commitment to improving the quality of life for residents in underserved communities in the Chicago TREF has supported homeless women and girls on their path to self-sufficiency. Over the years, the organization has distributed back-to-school supplies to Black girls, awarded scholarships to Black women, and hosted job readiness workshops covering interview attire and application skills.
In partnership with local healthcare providers, TREF has addressed critical women’s health issues by offering programs focused on heart health, nutrition, and access to mammograms. The organization also provided hygiene products to women transitioning into the workforce and hosted a hair care workshop for Black women.
TREF has collaborated with various community partners to expand its reach. At Loretto Hospital on Chicago’s West Side, it sponsored breast cancer awareness sessions and screenings. In conjunction with My Sister’s Keeper, it offered workshops on early detection. With the Chicago Westside Branch NAACP, TREF sponsored annual back-to-school rallies and supply giveaways.
