The Tea Rose Educational Foundation (TREF) was established in February 2000 to improve quality of life for residents in undeserved communities in the Chicago land area.

TREF provides valuable services to individuals on the west side of Chicago and near west suburban communities.

TREF's program initiatives form the heart of the organization by responding to the needs of the community. TREF supports education, youth development, economic development, and grass roots community organizations.

SCHOLARSHIPS

TREF Scholarship: High School Seniors

TREF awards annual scholarships for academic excellence to graduating high school seniors who have been accepted into a college or university.  These scholarships help students offset tuition and other academic fees.

TREF Scholarship: Existing Undergraduates

TREF awards annual scholarships to existing college/university undergraduate students that have completed a minimum of 12 college credit hours and pursuing any major / concentration.  These scholarships help students offset tuition and other academic fees.

Glamora Jordan-Maeweather Scholarship

TREF awards this scholarship to individuals who are pursuing a career in nursing.  This scholarship was established in memory of a chartering member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Tau Gamma Omega Chapter, who was a registered nurse.

Annie Marie Ford Scholarship

TREF awards this scholarship to individuals who exemplify strong leadership characteristics.  This scholarship was established in honor of Annie Marie Ford , a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Tau Gamma Omega Chapter.

Ray Charles “Chuck” Easley Memorial Scholarship

Ray Easley scholarship was established in honor of Mr. Easley. Prior to Tau Gamma Omega chapter receiving its official charter and until his passing, “Chuck” provided invaluable assistance to the chapter. Whether he was serving as an advisor for AKAzaar or presenting job readiness training for men in need, Tau Gamma Omega could rely on Chuck to serve. TREF awards this scholarship to individuals who exemplify a strong desire to serve.

Dr. Mark E. Williams Scholarship

Dr. Mark E. Williams scholarship was established in honor of the late husband of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Tau Gamma Omega Chapter member Stephanie A. Whyte-Williams, MD. Dr. Williams was an internal medicine physician born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. Attended Chicago Public Schools and a prestigious historically black university (HBCU) prior to medical school. In undergrad, he was a chemistry major and proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. In his medical practice, he cared for underserved and low-income communities.

PROGRAMS

                                HBCU For Life: A Call to Action
TREF support programs that promote and market historically black colleges and universities and encourage students to attend HBCUs. TREF assist students as they seek admission to college by providing guidance and support in completing the application and enrollment process.

                              Women’s Healthcare and Wellness
TREF raise community awareness of critical health issues impacting African American women. The primary focuses will be breast cancer awareness and prevention, heart health, nutrition and wellness, and care for the caregivers.

                                       Building Economic Legacy
This program target emphasizes financial planning, asset accumulation, and wealth building including savings and investments, managing debt, and improving credit. TREF partners with local churches, shelters, and other organizations throughout the year to:

  • Provide food, clothing, toiletries and household goods for those transitioning from homelessness
  • Educate families on entrepreneurship, budgeting and financial management.

                                                   The Arts
TREF support programs that expose students to arts enrichment and culture by focusing on visual and performing arts and by showcasing talent through the exploration of writers, entertainers and various other artists.

                                                 Global Impact
TREF support programming that eng ages in global partnerships that provide assistance to the underservedinternational areas populated with people of color. These partnerships include collecting gently worn shoes for Soles 4 Souls and collecting used eyeglasses for Lions Club International.

DONATIONS

TREF makes donations to civic organizations, including NAACP, Loretto Hospital Foundation, Sankofa Safe Child Initiative, and others in an effort to assist them in improving the community by providing valuable programs and services.  TREF supports the Back to School/Stay in School initiative by providing workshops on health, study habits, motivation and book bags filled with school supplies.
